5 Reasons Why Marriage Is Hard

After being married for 12 years, I’m revealing some of the reasons why marriage is hard. By the end of this blog post, you will have a better understanding of why marriage is challenging and whether or not a marriage intervention is right for you.

Ready? Let’s go.

1. Life is Hard

You and your spouse are two completely different individuals with different wants, needs, desires, and interests. It’s hard enough trying to navigate life alone in the midst of all the chaos the world presents with. So, it’s even more complicated trying to do life with someone else!

2. One or both of you lack experience

Marriage is one of the many things that we’re not required to have experience with. Let’s face it, many of us either received on the job training, or had previous experience but quickly realized it no longer served us in the current relationship. It can be hard to admit when you lack the necessary skills to be successful.

3. Mindset

You can only go as far as your mind allows. Often times, we subconsciously become accustomed to faulty thinking. We have limiting beliefs about marriage that keep us stuck and inhibit our ability to grow beyond the confines of our minds.

4. No Vision

When asked the question, what’s the vision for your marriage, most couples will turn and look at each other with a blank stare while waiting for the other to respond. Couples who lack vision have no sense of where they’re headed. It’s even more complex when both parties have two different perspectives on the direction of the marriage.

5. Lack of Commitment

Marriage requires commitment. There is no healthy, sustainable marriage with buy-in from both partners. When there’s no commitment, every disagreement sounds like divorce. Every argument ends with more animosity. Every fight inhibits forgiveness.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are many reasons why marriage is hard, and the list continues to grow! If you’re wondering how a marriage intervention might help your relationship, feel free to contact me for a 15-minute consultation to see how I might be able to help you.
